Slavic Cup Rally: Patrik Flodin Wins!

Патрик Флодин

The second day of the Slavic Cup Rally astonished the amateurs with an intriguing plot, an the sportsmen - with a struggle for every second.

Patrik Flodin made an attack on the first rally course already. The task became easier when Andrey Zhigunov car's wheel was beaded on the fourth turning from the start. Andrey won special stage 3, but after the first section Flodin was 8 second ahead.

Патрик Флодин

P. Flodin: The first two rally courses were all right, but on the long special stage I couldn't overcome Andrey. After servicing he must attack hard, especially on the second passing of the long special stage. There he is evidently quicker than me. And I will be attacking too. I must do it. It will be very interesting!

And so here is the last stage. With bated breath the audience followed online-results on the board. Special stage 10: Flodin wins 2.2 seconds. Special stage 11: Patrik wins 2.4 seconds more. Special stage 12 - Andrey Zhigunov wins back 3.8 seconds. Patrik Flodin and Emil Axelsson win the Slavic Cup Rally!

P. Flodin: I am very much impressed by Andrey Zhigunov. He is so fast, I was not sure at all that we would be able to win. I think at the next race it will be too difficult for us to struggle with him. But I will try very hard.

Эмиль Аксельссон

E. Axelsson: We had a very tough struggle with Zhigunov. I didn't expect that Russian drivers were so fast, you have a very high level of training. We really did our maximum during the whole race. The more pleasant is the victory!

The same acute struggle was for the third place between Andrey Trukhin and Petr Turkin. The driver from Yekaterinburg passes the track accurately, and Turkin hits the marbles and loses 40 seconds, finding himself in the 5th place. Andrey Trukhin and Aleksey Petrov get the bronze.

The fourth was Vadim Makarov, who today was quicker than usually. Superally drivers Tagirov and Broslavsky showed the third and fourth results at rally courses but, unfortunately, it was only a consolation goal.

Сергей Успенский

URT team crew Sergey Uspenskiy/Marina Danilina are in the 6th position.

Сергей Успенский

S. Uspensly: I liked the race very much, especially the second day - magnificent, true rally! I have to say that Andrey Zhigunov was a surprise. It is clear that he had prepared well and increased the speed. I couldn't do it at this race and he could. He had worked very hard and speeded up.

And all drivers who are ahead of me were surprisingly fast. The rally goes forward after about a two-year pause. The drivers have apparently improved their results during the last year. I believe that one of the main reasons is one speedy driver - Patrick, everybody is trying to reach him. There must be a leader so that the others could aim at his timing. When everybody is driving with each other all the time they will not get faster, until there comes a driver who will drive quicker than them on the same road. That is then that they start to look for speed resources. And here is the result: the Russian Rally has become faster!

The second part of the top ten also changed in comparison with the previous day: Vilmantas Pupius broke the transmission, Alexander Nebogatikov hit the marbles and lost a lot of time, Yury Grischenkov left the track because of the problems with the electrical equipment. Thus, Vladimir Kilunin takes the 7th place, Vladimir Ganin - 8th, Vladimir Petrenko takes the 9th position, and Kirill Ladygin closes the top ten fastest list.

Кирилл Ладыгин

R2 classification also faced substantial losses: due to the breakage the classification leader Sergey Geraschenko and favourite for a bronze medal Denis Levjatov fell out of the race. Lada Sport won in all the three front drive classifications: R1 - Dmitry Bragin, R2 - Kirill Ladygin, R3 - Sergey Bakulin.

We are happy to congratulate driver Alexander Prokopenko on his first podium place. He won the bronze in R2 classification. Good work, Sasha!

So the first Belarus stage of the Russian Championship is over. At the press-conference the drivers praised the track and the organization of the competition.

P. Flodin: I liked the track here very much. It resembles that of Finland, but without hopping. It would be great if I could come here again. It was a good race!

E. Axelsson: I would like to thank the organizers, judges and marshals. They worked accurately, were very attentive to the sportsmen, helped when something was unclear. Very good organization of the race!

We join the thanks and congratulations to the organizers of the Slavic Cup Rally. The race is a success. We hope to come back here the next year.
